Thursday 06/18/2020 Incorporating the 2018 AAP Classifications of Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases and Conditions into your Practice with Kathy Forbes, RDH, BS

June 18 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm CDT

So many of the services hygienists provide depend on an accurate dental hygiene diagnosis.  Since the World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases and Conditions has been released (June 2018) clinicians have been struggling to understand HOW to incorporate this assessment into their daily practice. Look no further!  This course will provide a simple approach and WORKSHEET which can be used to determine each patient’s disease status using these new classifications.  Case studies (periodontal chartings and full mouth radiographs) will be reviewed so that participants can have a “hands-on” approach to using the worksheet.

Upon completion of this course, the participant:
1. Describe and compare the 1999 and 2018 AAP Classifications of Periodontal Diseases and Conditions

2.Explain the rationale behind creating the 2018 Classification System.

3.Correctly document diagnostic statements for (a) Periodontal & Gingival Health for both an intact and/or reduced periodontium, (b) Gingival Inflammation, (c) Peri-Implant Diseases & Conditions, (d) Staging of Periodontal Conditions and (e) Grading of Periodontal Conditions.

Kathy Forbes RDH, BS speaks frequently about the correct classification, documentation, treatment planning, procedure code selection and long-term case management for patients with periodontal disease. She provides continuing education to state Dental Hygiene associations, the U. of Washington and Oregon Health Sciences University CDE programs as well as dental offices throughout the Pacific Northwest. During her long career in education she most recently taught the first year Periodontics curriculum and first year clinic in the Dental Hygiene Program at Pierce College in Tacoma, WA as well as the Teaching Practicum Series for the Eastern Washington University’s Degree Completion program (at Pierce College) for licensed dental hygienists seeking their Bachelor’s Degree.
