So many of the services hygienists provide depend on an accurate dental hygiene diagnosis. Since the World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases and Conditions has been released (June 2018) clinicians have been struggling to understand HOW to incorporate this assessment into their daily practice. Look no further! This course will provide a simple approach and WORKSHEET which can be used to determine each patient’s disease status using these new classifications. Case studies (periodontal chartings and full mouth radiographs) will be reviewed so that participants can have a “hands-on” approach to using the worksheet.
Upon completion of this course, the participant:
1. Describe and compare the 1999 and 2018 AAP Classifications of Periodontal Diseases and Conditions
2.Explain the rationale behind creating the 2018 Classification System.
3.Correctly document diagnostic statements for (a) Periodontal & Gingival Health for both an intact and/or reduced periodontium, (b) Gingival Inflammation, (c) Peri-Implant Diseases & Conditions, (d) Staging of Periodontal Conditions and (e) Grading of Periodontal Conditions.
