11/06/2020 Illinois Dental Hygienists’ Association Annual Session, Medically Necessary Coding-Documentation
November 6 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm CST
Medically Necessary Coding-Documentation
Periodontal disease starts with a biofilm-based infection that creates a wound that, in turn, induces the inflammatory cascade. This wound must be taken seriously and treated at the earliest possible stages. We tend to think of our diagnoses as dental diagnoses; but there is no such thing as a dental diagnosis. Accurate coding for dental, medical and for electronic health records keeping requires a documented medical necessity including a medical diagnosis. In this hands-on breakout session, participants will discover the steps with a case study.
Upon completion of this course, the participant will:
- Learn the simple equation: Medical Diagnosis=Medically Necessary Treatment =Medically Necessary Coding= Reimbursement.
- Routinely use SOAP documentation format for consistency and success
- Write simple and effective “Twitter-Style” medical necessity narratives for dental claims
- Identify to use IDC-10 CM codes on dental claims
Intended audience: Dental hygienists, dental assistants, dentists, and dental business professionals
